Retirement Resilience Analysis™

Preparing for the Future of Social Security

Social Security is an important part of retirement income for millions of Americans—but its future financial condition is an important planning consideration.

According to the 2026 Social Security Trustees Report, the combined Social Security trust funds are projected to be depleted in 2034. Under the Trustees' intermediate projections, if no legislative changes are made, continuing program income would be sufficient to pay approximately 83% of scheduled benefits at that time.

That does not mean Social Security is expected to disappear, nor does it predict that an individual's benefit will automatically be reduced by 17%. Rather, it highlights a risk that should be incorporated into a comprehensive retirement plan.

The LHFG Retirement Resilience Analysis™

At the Lance Hocutt Financial Group, we believe retirement planning should consider not only investment risk, but also income risk.

Our Retirement Resilience Analysis examines how dependent a retirement plan is on Social Security and evaluates how the plan may respond under different Social Security funding scenarios. We consider factors such as:

  • Social Security's role in your retirement income

  • Your portfolio's ability to supplement or replace income

  • Potential reductions in future Social Security benefits

  • Portfolio withdrawal requirements under different scenarios

  • Longevity and inflation risks

  • The overall resilience of your retirement income plan

The objective isn't to predict what Congress will do. It is to determine whether your retirement plan is strong enough to withstand uncertainty.

Because Social Security is only one component of a retirement plan, we believe the better question isn't "Will Social Security be there?"

The better question is:

"If Social Security provides less than currently scheduled, will my retirement plan still work?"

That is the question our Retirement Resilience Analysis is designed to help answer.
